Earthquake of 3.8 magnitude hits Meghalaya including Shillong

A magnitude 3.8 earthquake hit Meghalaya’s capital Shillong and adjoining areas on Friday morning, an official said.

He said, there was no immediate report of any loss of life or damage to property.

The tremor measuring 3.8 on the Richter scale, struck at 8.46 am, an official at the Regional Seismological Center here told PTI.
He said, the epicenter of the earthquake was detected at a depth of 14 km in the Mawphlang area, southwest of the city.

Northeastern states fall in a high seismic zone and earthquakes occur frequently in this region.
